O.O

Oh boy!
Matt donated his hair the first time he cut it and will donate it again this time around.
I'll be eager to see the result!!

Indeed -- you inspire us all!
Though I'm not going to be as brave as you. I covet my pigtails. :)

Funny, I've been letting my hair grow all year, since I've been out of work, and LoL is in West Palm. I was kinda thinking about letting it grow some more this year and then doing this.

:/ Every time I see someone I know donating to Locks of Love it makes me sad. If it's just that you want to cut your hair, that's great, but if the goal is to do a good deed with it, a simple donation of money to a legitimate charity is a better idea.

Here's a post I wrote about Locks of Love back in 2006 when I'd started researching them: http://zellandyne.livejournal.com/430726.html

I haven't updated my info on them, since, I'll admit, my mind is pretty much made up against them at this point.

To summarize - the BBB doesn't regard them as a legitimate charity because they refuse to disclose their book-keeping, their own PR is misleading, they sell the majority of the hair that's usable instead of using it themselves, they don't provide wigs for kids going through chemo (just for kids with alopecia, which is legitimate but, again, misleading), they generally make fewer than 200 wigs a year, and they don't provide wigs free of charge (although they do discount the cost).

Well, that's annoying.

Is there someplace you specifically recommend? I've heard of "Wigs for Kids" -- I'm sure there are some others...

I haven't looked into Wigs for Kids. I've heard, but done no research, of these folks: http://www.matteroftrust.org/programs/hairmatsinfo.html

Then there's Pantene's Beautiful Lengths - again, I haven't done research, but their website seems a lot clearer about requirements and uses than Lol's: http://www.beautifullengths.com/en_US/requirements.jsp

Excellent! I'm so glad you said something.

I'm going to check out the Pantene one...my guess would be that they are held to higher standards being a big corporation and all. Plus, I use Pantene. :)

I was going to say this but then didn't because I didn't want to burst your bubble. But since someone else said it before me I'm jumping on the bandwagon. There are better things to donate if you want to help people. Time, money, food, clothing. Keep your hair or if you want to cut it, sell the hair on ebay and donate the proceeds.
